    The Conversations Beneath the Surface

What Happens When the Questions She's Asking Go Beyond the Game?

If you support a female high school athlete, you've likely seen moments when what she's navigating has very little to do with athletic ability.

    Do I still belong here?

What if I'm not the star anymore?

    Why has my confidence changed?

How do I speak up for myself?

What if I don't play in college?

Who am I outside of my sport?

Those questions can affect confidence, mental well-being, communication, relationships, leadership, decision-making, and whether an athlete even wants to remain in her sport.

Parents and coaches care deeply about these moments. But knowing what to say, what to ask, and how to respond isn't always easy.

That's why the Beyond The Athlete High School Summit was created.

Over three virtual days, we're bringing together athletes, coaches, leaders, and experts to explore the experiences female athletes are navigating—and how the adults around them can better support their development.

    What You'll Take Away

More Perspective. Better Conversations. Stronger Support.

This Summit isn't about giving adults another checklist. It's about helping the people around female athletes better understand what may be happening beneath the surface and giving them ideas they can bring back into their homes, teams, schools, and organizations.

    01

    Understand Confidence Beyond Performance

Explore what happens when an athlete's confidence becomes tied to playing time, statistics, recognition, comparison, or results—and how adults can help broaden that foundation.

    02

    Support Identity Beyond Sport

Better understand the importance of helping young athletes recognize who they are beyond their athletic role.

    03

    Encourage Voice & Self-Advocacy

Explore how parents, coaches, and leaders can create environments where female athletes feel more comfortable communicating, asking questions, and advocating for themselves.

    04

    Develop Leadership

Think differently about leadership and how young women can begin recognizing their influence before they ever receive a title.

    05

    Prepare for College & Opportunity

Look beyond recruiting alone to think about the realities of college, future opportunities, decision-making, reputation, visibility, and preparation.

    06

Help Them Think About What Comes Next

Better prepare athletes for the reality that sport will eventually change—and help them recognize how their experiences and strengths can transfer into whatever comes next.

    For Parents

Supporting Her Doesn't Mean Having All the Answers.

You may see the confidence shift before anyone else does. You may be the person she talks to when she's frustrated with playing time, comparison, pressure, teammates, recruiting, or whether she even wants to keep playing.

And sometimes it's difficult to know whether to encourage, listen, push, step back, or ask a different question.

The Summit gives parents an opportunity to hear from athletes, coaches, leaders, and experts about what young women may be navigating—and consider new ways to approach those conversations at home.

Sometimes supporting her starts with understanding what the experience feels like from her side.

    For Coaches & Athletic Leaders

You Can't Address Every Part of Athlete Development During Practice.

Coaches and athletic directors carry enormous responsibility. You're managing teams, competition, schedules, performance, culture, expectations, families, and the realities of an athletic season.

At the same time, you may be the adult who notices when an athlete loses confidence, stops speaking up, struggles to belong, or begins questioning what her future looks like.

The Beyond The Athlete Summit is designed to be an additional resource—not another responsibility.

    Use the conversations to:

    • Bring new perspective back to your coaching staff
    • Create better conversations with athletes
    • Support parent education
    • Strengthen whole-athlete development
    • Identify topics your program may want to address more intentionally
    • Give coaches additional language and resources around challenges they already see

You don't have to do all of this alone.

    Beyond Performance & Recruiting

There Are Important Conversations We Don't Always Make Enough Time For.

Athletic Programs Already Spend Time On

    • Performance
    • Playing time
    • Competition
    • Schedules
    • Statistics
    • Recruiting
    • Scholarships
    • The next level

The Conversations We're Making More Room For

    • Identity
    • Confidence
    • Mental well-being
    • Belonging
    • Communication
    • Self-advocacy
    • Leadership
    • Opportunity
    • Personal brand and reputation
    • College realities
    • Life beyond sport

The first group matters. But developing the whole athlete requires both.

Because preparing an athlete for her future means preparing for more than the next game.

    The Adults Around Her Matter

The Way We Respond Can Shape the Way She Experiences Sport.

When a female athlete starts questioning whether she belongs in her sport, the reason may have very little to do with how much she loves the game.

    It may be:

    • Playing time.
    • Comparison.
    • A drop in confidence.
    • Pressure.
    • Team dynamics.
    • Fear of disappointing someone.
    • Or the feeling that if she isn't headed toward a scholarship or the next level, maybe there isn't a place for her anymore.

    Those moments matter.

And so does the way the adults around her respond.

That's why these conversations aren't only athlete conversations. They're parent conversations. Coach conversations. Leadership conversations. School conversations.

The Summit exists to help more of us have them.

    Who Should Attend

For the People Helping Shape the Female Athlete Experience

The Summit conversations are centered around female high school athletes. The Summit itself is designed for the adults and organizations supporting them.

    Parents & Families

For parents who want more perspective on the pressures, transitions, questions, and experiences their daughters may be navigating through sport.

    Coaches

For coaches who want to support athletes beyond physical and technical development while strengthening confidence, communication, leadership, resilience, and team culture.

    Athletic Directors & School Leaders

For athletic administrators looking for additional resources and conversations around whole-athlete development within their programs.

    Educators & Athlete Supporters

For counselors, teachers, mentors, trainers, and other adults helping young athletes develop inside and outside sport.

    Clubs, Teams & Athlete Organizations

For organizations committed to creating stronger developmental environments for female athletes.

You don't have to be an expert in athlete development to attend. You simply have to care about how young women experience sport and who they are becoming through it.
